Caritas Moldova – works for social justice
Every year, on February 11, the world celebrates the International Day of the Sick. On this day, Caritas Moldova would like to raise public attention to the problem of sick and disabled people, and encourages all for human solidarity with those who need it.
We decided that this day will be suitable for the highlighting the campaign against hunger “One human family, food for all” launched on 05 December 2013. The campaign “One human family, food for all” was born from the global initiative of Caritas Internationalis, was blessed by Pope Francis, and was implemented in over 165 countries. This year, the Caritas organizations organized different activities for reducing the global hunger.
In 2014, Caritas Moldova supported by H.E Anton Cosa – bishop of Chisinau, conducted several campaigns of collecting food that was distributed to the poor and lonely sick people, trough the 7 homecare medico-social centres. Another initiative that is a charity campaign “The Candle of Faith” was realized within the local Caritas Moldova branches.
Thus, in the period from 05 March to 12 May 2014 and 30 November 2014 to 8 January 2015, Caritas Moldova in partnership with the Romano Catholic Parishes of the Chisinau Diocese organized the charity campaign “Candle of Faith” in the frame of the “Year against hunger”, in support of those who are in need, especially the hungry one.
During Lent and Easter were distributed 1181 candles, and during Advent and Christmas – 289 candles. From the total sum of collected donations, 6370 lei were used for purchasing and distributing of food packages in the parishes involved in this charity campaign.
Thus, in the parish “St. Joseph” food packages were distributed to 19 bedridden patients, in the parish “St. Trinity” from Tiraspol, 8 persons received food packages, and in the parish “St. Marta” from Sloboda Rashkov, it was prepared a hot meal for 7 disabled lonely elderly.
The remaining sum of 12188 lei will be used for purchasing and distributing food packages to the most needy, seek and vulnerable people and marking the “International Day of Seek People” celebrated on 11thFebruary. Over 50 families from 17 localities, mainly with many children and seniors living in extremely difficult conditions, have received substantial food packages this week.
We highly appreciate the generosity of all big heartened people who were actively involved in this charity campaign and supported this social cause of people who are in a situation of extreme poverty.
As well, we want to thank all our partners: Roman-Catholic Parishes of the Chisinau Diocese, the Hotel “Villa Natali”, the company Moldauditing Ltd, European Centre for Education “FIDES” and ULIM University, for the support offered during this charity campaign.
Thank you all!
We feel your support!
