The Project FINANCIAL LITERACY FOR YOUTH (FLY) offers a comprehensive training course for first year students from professional schools in Moldova, covering key aspects related to setting financial goals, planning, budget management and proper use of financial instruments.

Year of release: 2015 – present

Goals: The main goal of the project is to provide a better understanding of financial topics and tools to young generation in order to ensure a more secure financial future (to make savvy and effective financial decisions in their lives)

Objectives:

  1. Change the perception and attitude of youth regarding money and importance of shaping a financial literacy
  2. Help youth achieve a greater financial well-being (by having a control over day-to-day, month-to-month finances; by planning and setting goals).
  3. Strengthen the independent living skills of youth by develop their own leadership competencies, the capacities to explore career opportunities, and establish their own business plan

Impact 2015 -2016:

  1. Over 120 students from three professional schools (one in Causeni city and two in Chisinau) attended classes on financial literacy, developing their communication skills, conflict resolution, self-confidence and personal branding.
  2. Were organized 3 trainings, lasting one day (moderated by staff from Junior Achievement, partner of Caritas Moldova in implementing FLY) to prepare the project staff to teach the curriculum FLY. The ToT-s also gave the formers the opportunity to share experience in lessons and give feedback, ideas and suggestions to improve the curriculum.
  3. The course proved to be popular among students, most of them coming from rural areas and smaller towns. Many of them assume significant financial responsibilities, because of migration phenomenon parents who go abroad in search of a job.
